#Model with the Copilot
The Copilot changes a process diagram for you from a chat, and every change it makes waits in a list until you accept or reject it.
#Open the Copilot
- Open a process on its BPMN tab and click Edit. The Copilot is only available while you edit, and only for a process that already has a diagram.
- Click Copilot, next to Properties in the top-right corner of the canvas. It opens in the same side panel; the tabs on the panel's edge switch between Properties and Copilot.
The Copilot only appears if your installation has an AI provider configured. If there is no Copilot button, ask your administrator. Nothing on the screen says why it is missing.
#Ask for a change
Type what should change — "Add a user task for the approval after Fetch customer" — into What should the copilot change about the process? and click Send. Stop ends the answer early.
The Copilot can:
- create, connect, move, rename, retype and delete elements: start and end events, plain, service and user tasks, exclusive, parallel and inclusive gateways, and intermediate events;
- configure elements — the system, adapter, action and environment of a service task, the assignment and form of a user task, mappings, multi-instance settings, timers and documentation;
- look up your systems, actions, environments and the data earlier steps produce;
- change the process name, documentation and Executable setting, add and remove tags, and link systems;
- open test mode and run single elements there.
It cannot save, discard or deploy — that stays with you — and it never sees the secret of a credential. When a service task could use more than one environment, it asks you which one. Sub-processes, call activities and boundary events are not on the list of elements it can create.
⚠️ The Copilot answers in German and names new elements in German, whatever the language of the screen.
#Review what it changed
stateDiagram-v2 [*] --> Open: the Copilot changes an element Open --> Accepted: ✓ Accept, or you edit the element yourself Open --> Reverted: ↶ Reject, or Ctrl+Z Reverted --> Open: Redo Accepted --> [*]: marker removed, change stays Reverted --> [*]: element back as it was
Every change to the diagram is listed under Changes at the bottom of the Copilot, and the changed element carries a small sparkles badge on the canvas.
- ✓ Accept keeps the change and removes the marker. Accept all does it for every open change.
- ↶ Reject puts the element back as it was. A deleted element comes back without its connections; press Ctrl+Z to restore those too.
- Click an element's name in the list to select and centre it. Clicking the badge on the canvas selects the element and opens the Copilot.
- Undo and redo work as usual. Changing an element by hand counts as accepting the Copilot's change to it.
Changes to the diagram are not stored until you click Save. Discard throws away the Copilot's diagram changes together with your own.
⚠️ Changes to the process itself — its name, documentation, Executable setting, tags and linked systems — are saved immediately and do not appear in the list, so they cannot be rejected there.
⚠️ A new name or documentation from the Copilot is written behind the editor's back: the editor still holds the old value, and your next Save puts it back. Ask for these when you have no other unsaved changes, and reload the page right afterwards.
#Start again
New chat clears the conversation and the list of changes. The conversation is not kept: it ends when you save, discard or leave edit mode.
